The traffic coming through the border crossing at the Morses Line port of entry in Franklin county, Vermont is so slow that guards stationed there spend much of their time washing their cars or hitting golf balls. Rather than closing that crossing and diverting the funds to other busier ports of entry that really need [...]

ObamaCare severely limits your health insurance options
by Kim Priestap on 06. Apr, 2010 in health care
Dan Riehl directed me to Rob Port who links to the audio of an interview Scott Hennan of 1100AM did with Rod St. Aubyn, Director of Government Relations for Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota. If you were still skeptical about ObamaCare being a government takeover of the health care industry, this should relieve [...]
Obama’s newest path to big government: foodstamps for college students and college educated adults
by Kim Priestap on 28. Mar, 2010 in Freedom, Politics, government
One of the various reasons the majority of the American people are angry about the passage of ObamaCare is that it greatly expands the role of government in everyone’s lives. Most Americans think being forced into accepting government hand outs is an affront to basic American values of freedom, liberty, and independence. ObamaCare is just [...]
Yikes! Illinois is “near the point of fiscal disintigration”
by Kim Priestap on 01. Mar, 2010 in Economy, government
We’ve heard a lot over the past few weeks about California being on the precipice of fiscal disaster, but did you know that Illinois is in a similarly catastrophic situation? Illinois is in such financial trouble that its deficit is $13 billion, nearly half of its $28 billion budget. Tom Elia of The New Editor [...]
Will the federal government ban pain medication?
by Kim Priestap on 16. Feb, 2010 in government, health care
During the health care debate, President Obama said that one way to reduce health care costs is to give grandma a pain pill instead of surgery. Now it seems grandma may not even get the pain pill:
American voters once seen as brilliant for voting for Obama are now unintelligent boobs
by Kim Priestap on 06. Feb, 2010 in health care, liberalism
Charles Krauthammer is again brilliant in his analysis of American liberals: A year later, after stunning Democratic setbacks in Virginia, New Jersey and Massachusetts, Mr. Obama gave a stay-the-course State of the Union address (a) pledging not to walk away from health care reform, (b) seeking to turn college education increasingly into a federal entitlement, [...]
A bad sign
by Kim Priestap on 11. Dec, 2009 in government
While you struggle to pay your bills during this terrible economy, look who’s living the good life, and on your dime: The number of federal workers earning six-figure salaries has exploded during the recession, according to a USA TODAY analysis of federal salary data. Federal employees making salaries of $100,000 or more jumped from 14% [...]
Are the American people tired of Obama’s big government?
by Kim Priestap on 05. Dec, 2009 in Barack Obama, Economy, government
Nina Easton says yes: When Obama took office, conventional wisdom held that the American people, jarred by a financial crisis they were routinely told was “the worst since the Great Depression,” would race into the protective arms of Washington. After all, the Federal Government had given us the New Deal in the worst of times [...]
British police arresting people just to get their DNA
by Kim Priestap on 24. Nov, 2009 in government
This is far worse than the “Do you have your papers?” and “Round up the usual suspects” that communist dictatorships favored. Police in Britain are arresting people for the purpose of gaining access to their DNA, one of the biggest of big brother tactics. It goes to show that overzealous big government will go to [...]
Joseph Cao: the lone Republican to vote for ObamaCare
by Kim Priestap on 08. Nov, 2009 in Barack Obama, Corruption, Democrats, Freedom, health care
The House passed – although barely – a massive $1.8 trillion health care bill that would put the health care of millions of Americans who are currently in private insurance plans in the hands of the US government. Democrats like to complain about how awful it is to have to deal with an insurance company, [...]
I'm Kim Priestap
I'm a Reagan conservative and believe in his core principles as outlined by Jeffrey Lord in The American Spectator:
1. The idea that an individual was and should always be the master of his or her own destiny.
2. The belief in the unique character and powers of every human being and their personal opinions.
3. A belief in freedom under law, as opposed to the concept of modern liberalism that power is everything.
4. A belief that collectivism and the centralizing of power in Washington threatened Americans with a loss of freedom in their own communities and daily lives.
5. A belief in the individual over bureaucracy.
6. That modern liberalism has, in the words of Whittaker Chambers, a "vindictiveness...of temper."
7. That, as Reagan wrote, "we cannot diminish the value of an entire category of human life -- the unborn -- without diminishing the value of all human life."
8. That we will all die, but what makes the difference, as Reagan once said, is what we die for. That there are things worth dying for, and peace, alas, can never be purchased at any price but strength.
9. That freedom belongs to every individual by divine right.
10. That freedom is better than control.
