Illinois state lawmakers receiving eviction notices

Posted at 1:45 pm in Democrats & Economy & government

A couple of weeks ago we learned that the state of Illinois is facing almost certain financial disintegration because of decades of Democrats’ shockingly irresponsible government spending. It’s gotten so bad that now Illinois state lawmakers are receiving eviction notices on their local offices:
The state’s money problems are so bad that lawmakers are getting [...]

Is the FDIC preemtively cracking down on potentially problematic loans and could it lead to massive bank failures in the near term?

Posted at 7:16 pm in Economy

Mish at Mish’s Global Economic Trend Analysis is getting emails from readers that tell him that the FDIC is really cracking down on a number of banks’ lending habits. It seems federal auditors are combing through the books of lending institutions and requiring that they downgrade or call in loans that are not yet problematic [...]

Yikes! Illinois is “near the point of fiscal disintigration”

Posted at 9:54 pm in Economy & government

We’ve heard a lot over the past few weeks about California being on the precipice of fiscal disaster, but did you know that Illinois is in a similarly catastrophic situation? Illinois is in such financial trouble that its deficit is $13 billion, nearly half of its $28 billion budget. Tom Elia of The New [...]

The government is looking to raid your retirement account

Posted at 8:14 am in Democrats & Economy & government

Back in October, 2008, I wrote a post about how House Democrats were trying to find a way to nationalize the American people’s retirement accounts by requiring that all Americans “invest” 5% of their income into guarranteed retirement account that would be run by the Social Security Administration instead of private 401(k) accounts and IRAs.

About Canada’s health care system

Posted at 9:24 am in Economy & health care

It’s interesting that when Canada’s leaders need serious health care they come to America:
Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Danny Williams will be sidelined from three to 12 weeks because of heart surgery he’ll undergo at an undisclosed location in the United States, says acting premier Kathy Dunderdale.
I saw this article at Don Surber’s place, and he [...]

Are the American people tired of Obama’s big government?

Posted at 8:09 am in Barack Obama & Economy & government

Nina Easton says yes:
When Obama took office, conventional wisdom held that the American people, jarred by a financial crisis they were routinely told was “the worst since the Great Depression,” would race into the protective arms of Washington. After all, the Federal Government had given us the New Deal in the worst of times and [...]

Is Barack Obama’s Domestic Agenda a National Security Threat?

Posted at 8:55 pm in Barack Obama & Economy & Military & National Security

That’s what I argue in this week’s American Issues Project column. Here’s a portion:
The health care reform bills circulating through Congress are job killers because many of their provisions include billions of dollars of fees and taxes that will hit the American people both directly and indirectly. The Baucus bill in particular is loaded [...]

A Time for Choosing

Posted at 10:00 pm in Capitalism & Conservatism & Economy & government

Thanks to Senator Jim DeMint for reminding us that today is the 45th anniversary of Ronald Reagan’s “A Time for Choosing” speech.
Please pass this on to everyone you know, especially high school students since they many of them may be voting in 2010 and 2012. Most likely this will be the first time they will [...]

Barack Obama finally admits: Ten year deficits will explode to $9 trillion

Posted at 10:03 am in Barack Obama & Economy

In an act of sheer cowardice, Barack Obama dropped this little nugget on the American people just as he headed off to a ten day vacation:
The Obama administration will raise its forecast for the 10-year federal budget deficit to about $9 trillion from $7.1 trillion, a senior administration official said.
The White House will try [...]

Michigan’s disastrous economy is…Engler’s fault?

Posted at 3:58 pm in Economy & Michigan

Each week a physical therapist from our school system comes to our house to provide physical therapy assistance to my four year daughter. She’s a very nice lady and I appreciate her help, but I have to say she has drunk way too much liberal kool-aid. We entered into a brief discussion about the mass [...]
