A 12 year old’s take on abortion

The Other McCain posted a video of a 12 year old girl giving a speech about abortion. Her arguments are impressive. They are well researched and well reasoned. But is it appropriate for a 12 year old to make such controversial arguments publicly? Dr. Melissa Couthier isn’t so sure because, she argues, it borders on exploitation of a child for political ends. As a mom, I can understand her position. I have a 6 year old son, and not only would I not allow him to make statements like this publicly, but I don’t let him know that abortion exists. And I want to keep it that way for a while because I want my son to remain innocent for as long as possible. Right now he doesn’t need to know that millions of unborn babies are killed while they are still in their mommies’ tummies. Cassie Fiano says she wasn’t expecting the video to be as good as it was. Either way, if this girl is this good at 12, just imagine what she’ll be like in high school and college. Politics is clearly in her future.

    I told my son at age 11 and my daughter at age 8 about my abortion. They feel free to ask about it and know that Aubrey is part of our family.
