My thoughts on Obama’s win
I’m still trying to wrap my head around what the American people did yesterday when they chose a Marxist to be the next president. Yes, Barack Obama is a Marxist. But most Americans don’t know that because the mainstream media engaged in journalistic malpractice by not finding out and reporting who Barack Obama really is and what he really believes. But the American people are going to find out soon enough, and when they do, they will have a serious case of buyers’ remorse.
I’m heading out for a trip to Washington, DC, ironically, so I don’t have time to offer anything of substance, but when I do, I’ll layout here what I think Obama’s presidency will mean for America. It won’t be good, that I can say with certainty. Obama’s choice of Rahm Emanuel as his chief of staff is the first indicator.
Here are a couple of things to think about in the mean time. First, Barack Obama hasn’t been president-elect for 24 hours, and the Russians are already acting aggressively. Second, the market tanked today. Why? Because investors know an Obama presidency will mean bad news for our already struggling economy.
More later.

ouch. sour grapes, eh?
sorry, i’m a canadian and we all say ‘eh’.
sorry, i’m a canadian and we’ve lived in terror watching your country tank for the last two terms; praying all the while we’d not be sucked down w/ you but knowing, inevitably, that we would.
sorry, i’m a canadian and not privy to the information which proves Obama is a Marxist. nor am i even certain why that would be a bad thing. why is it we require that our children share their toys, but keep ourselves exempt?
sorry, sorry, sorry.
but take heart! Obama will still save you, though you’ll never thank him for it.
Obama will still lead you, though you may kick and scream the entire time.
Obama will still heal your country, inspire the planet and usher in prosperity that can only come from unity.
in the end, when the worst of your fears are proven false (and even a little silly), you may even come to regret that you were not on board for this historic occasion.
you were missed, but, fortunately, your absence did not prevent this magnificent event from transpiring.
i look forward to reading future posts; but not as much as look forward to you eating those words.
type carefully. write it with your head, spell check with your heart, and you may find yourself acknowledging this beautiful, immutable truth:
Barack Obama is the 44th President.
fuck yeah.
Jeremy – your last two words – first class! If that’s the way you end your comment, do we really care about anything else you have to say? Why do people have to use vulgarity to attempt to make their point? Guess that shows the limit of certain individual’s intelligence.
The truth will be seen.
Great post Kim!
the following comment is rated G; and is intended for all audiences:
it may surprise you to know i considered carefully the usage of that final profanity. in the end of course, i decided to go with it, if only because i like my english w/ a little seasoning.
ignore if you will, the eloquence of the two hundred and fourty-seven words that preceded those two which offend you; i’m inclined to consider them the icing on my Obama cake.
victory is sweet. hope. sweeter still.
as for the truth, of course it will be seen. such is self-evident. we saw the truth about Bush after all, didn’t we? some sooner than others.
meanwhile, rather than this wailing and gnashing of teeth, perhaps you best get on board with Obama. he is your President, after all, which means we’re all of us better off if i’m right and your wrong.
which i am, of course; as are you. so that’s one less thing to worry about.
I just read your post and shake my head. I mean, how am I to argue whether Obama is a Marxist? You’ve got to be kidding.
Check out this report from The Economist:

That’s right my warped conservative friend, if the entire globe could vote for a US president, Obama would have won 9,115 delegates, compared with a paltry 203 for Mr McCain. And if you think the US can survive without participation in a global economy, then well that explains your warped mind even more.
The past 8 years have been miserable for us and the world. It can go nowhere but up. From protecting the environment, to protecting a woman’s right to choose, to free speech and no more war in Iraq, and much, much more, it’s going to be a great 4 years. I just hope Obama can only fix some of the economic mess that Bush has managed to create.
yeah, i wanna know about this marxist stuff to.
spill it.
How do you tell a communist? Well, it’s someone who reads Marx and Lenin. And how do you tell an anti-Communist? It’s someone who understands Marx and Lenin.
—Ronald Reagan
I
Jeremy…I am a bit tired of Canadians telling us how to run OUR country. Feel free to mind your own business and not live in fear of what WE are doing. Stand on your own feet and stop depending on the U.S. to take care of you. Your fears will then be unnecessary, since after all, you are so incredibly smart and all-knowng. Certainly that means you can take care of yourselves, right? You have used the U.S. to protect you so that you have no need of any military to speak of, but instead of gratitude, you do nothing but spew pious platitudes of criticism. No…we have not forgotten the Canadians lack of support after 9-11.
Kim is not full of sour grapes. She speaks her mind, which is a basic right of this great nation that PROTECTS YOU daily.
Karin – why no comment on my statement? Or do you totally agree with me?
By the way, I love the fact that the request for tickets for Obama’s inauguration are the most in political history. For you conservative whack-oh’s, doesn’t it suck that he’s the most popular president-elect in recent history?
Carl, you make me laugh. Is your ego bruised that I didn’t bother to respond to your comment? A modicum of intelligence is required to illicit a response from me, but okaaay…
According to the poll you quoted, the ‘entire global world’ would have voted for Obama. Your source, “Economist.com” says that 52,000 people participated in the poll worldwide. There are approximately 6.6 billion people in the world. Do the math. That means that 0.0000078% of the world voted in this so-called poll. Scientific? Hardly. It’s absurd. It is not a president’s job to be liked. It is his job to keep the country safe.
Who said anything about the US not participating in the global economy? Of course, we will participate. I might remind you that the global economy can no more operate without the US, than the US can without them.
As for the last 8 years being miserable for you and the world…Oh please. I have traveled to orphanages in China and Guatemala and SEEN misery. You have NO IDEA what misery is if you have to means to sit and type at your own computer. You and Jeremy-the-Canadian can commiserate together, worrying and feeling miserable about your lives. The rest of us will be facing life with hope and gratefulness to have the privilege of living in this amazing country.
Oh–and it’s doesn’t bother me in the least that so many people want to attend the inaugration. It’s a history-making event and in spite of disagreeing with pretty much everything Obama says, I AM proud to live in country that would elect a black man as president. I just wish the man was J.C. Watts.
Karin,
What more do you want from the Economist results? I’m not going to argue about the results. It’s called a “poll”, moron, where only a portion of the population gets a say. Even the Republican-biased FOX news polls only polled 2-3,000 Americans at most during the election. Let’s see, 2,000 Americans in a country of 305.6 million, that would be 0.00000098%. Less accurate than the Economist. Hmmm.
Don’t give me you sob stories about third world countries. I feel WONDERFUL about my life now that Obama is president. By all means, feel free to move to Guatemala if you like.
What scares the sh*t out of me is people like you think some mystical dude with a beard floating around in the clouds is what rules this world. Here’s a shocker for ya – we came from apes. Period. It’s called evolution. Oh, and those dinosaur bones that date the world to be 300+ million years old, those weren’t planted by Satan, those are actual reptiles that died that long ago. Kind of contradicts the Bible that states the Earth was created just a few thousand years ago, doesn’t it?
The one thing that religion has caused more than anything else is WAR.
So, Carl, people who believe that God created the universe scare the shit out of you, huh. Why? What business is it of yours if I or anyone else believes that God created the universe? In what way does it impact your life? If you want to believe you descended from apes, go right ahead. In your case, it’s probably accurate.
You sound like a classless, callous fellow.
Carl, point taken on the poll thing. I just think polls are of little value unless they are truly scientific, which the Economist admits theirs was not. I also think the argument about the majority being right is a poor one, since there are many times throughout history when the majority was horribly, tragically wrong.
Sob stories about the poor??? Isn’t that what Obama has been preaching to us? That we are ‘our brothers and sisters keepers?’ Isn’t that what the Democrats ‘care’ about?? The poor, the downtrodden? Aren’t the Dems the party that ‘cares?’ Or is that only lip service?
That is what burns me to no end when people insist that socialist policies are so pie-in-the-sky noble. Doesn’t it seem odd to you that Obama and Biden only give a tiny portion of their own wealth to charity? I was astonished to see that Biden gave less than $4,000 from 2.5 million earnings to charity. Our family gives three times that on a very small income. I do take ‘giving to the poor’ very seriously but it makes me angry to be admonished by people like Obama and Biden, who do not personally walk their talk. Obama says he ‘wouldn’t mind paying more.’ Well, what is stopping him? Why doesn’t he do that right now? He only gave 5.7% of his income to charity – and he only gave 1% prior to the presidential campaign. Maybe those ‘rich people’ the Dems hate so much are their own leaders.
Why does it terrify you that I believe in God? How is it scary to think that Jesus loved you enough to die for you? What is scary about LOVE?
Your ’scientific’ theories are just that – theories. I reject the idea that a cosmic explosion resulted in the delicate nuances of the human body just coming together, or evolving. Give me one example of any evolution that is currently happening. And please don’t say it doesn’t have to because we’ve reached perfection. The human body still gets sick and dies. It doesn’t scare the crap out of me that you believe you came from an ape. It just makes me sad that you are missing out on a vibrant relationship with your Creator who loves you.
It’s too bad that you can’t have a discussion with a conservative without calling us names like whack-o, moron or warped.
I feel bad for Carl as he lives in Canada and the rest of the world does not care what the Canadians say or do. The country is almost classified as 3rd world since the country does not take a stance on anything and is afraid of America. Karin’s response should have been in French as well as English so that he received the message clearly.
“Bushonomy”
On a different note, Carl is somewhat correct. Having Obama as president will be better for the world and might reduce the hatred towards us. We need that right now. I don’t like the selection (Obama) by the American people myself. Kim and Karin, you need to understand, the people made a decision not based on qualifications but on change. We are all affected by this decision and there is nothing we can do about the decision made by the not so smart American people (which includes the undereducated movie stars born into stardum or luckily fell into it, as well as Unions). History is made, and history will continue to be made. I am most certain that if McCain was democrat, he would have been our next president. People are tired of the Bushonomy of which Bush made bad decisions, made a mockery of Americans and our government while crushing our economy. The economy simply failed as a result of the high oil prices. The oil industry got greety way to fast. Bush is associated with the oil industry and republicans. Both are and will continue to be enemies to the people going forward. Bush will be the reasons for the failure. I call this “Bushonomy”. Reaganomics is gone, and the republicans need to find a way to bring it back to restore their once powerful and meaningful party.
“Union Bushonomy”
I wish the oil industry would have raised the gas prices slowly “overtime”. Instead it was raised too quickly paralyzing the economy and the auto industry. The SUV’s and Trucks were a popular choice of Americans and heavily focused by the big 3. Michigan and Ohio’s economies are heavily driven by the automotive industry. Their economies are struggling the most. We must now figure out how we can help MI and OH as well as the auto industry. We must also help our economy by supporting our government. We need to be positive on the things that are working and fix the things we have control. GM and Ford are not going away. There is too much at stake. I have bought a lot of shares already in both GM and Ford showing my confidence in the restoration process ( I highly recommend others to join you will profit). I do believe the Unions must diminish and the Auto industry must cut the salaries of the factory workers. The salary does not match the work that they do. They need to pay for healthcare just like the rest of the population and have salaries that fit the work. It is way to common to hear those individuals working for the big 3 bragging about “how they sit in their cars while clocked in sleeping”, “sit in the bars drinking while clocked in”, “play cards or video games while clocked in”, and the unions continue protect them and increase their salaries/benefits. The union days are over and the unions, if they were smart, would recognize this. Unions are also to be blamed for the failed economy. I must associate them with the oil and our leader. This era of failure is called “Union Bushonomy”. As you all know, the unions supported Obama for change. They just don’t know that a change is coming their way. Bye Bye Unions. You get what you voted for……
In closing, we are getting the change. It might not be what we want, but we must change our automotive structure, stop the oil/gas gouging, get rid of the unions, invest in USA not over seas (this is my change) and rebuild the GOP towards Reaganomics for the sake of the economy.
God Bless America and thanks for allowing my freedom of speech on this wonderful Blog. God Bless you Kim! Kim, please but be cautious of your words so that you do not hurt the republican party during their rebuilding stages. Your words are far too republican. Move over a little to the middle. Look at the broad picture and be open minded. Karin, you go girl! You are simply being American showing some support of Kim and there is a lot of respect.

Avatar, because of some Canadian friends, I took three years of French in high school.
However, I have not kept up the language because it became…well…irrelevant. Like you said, the rest of the world does not care what Canada says or does. Nor is the French government worthy of anyone’s respect.
I’m wondering where Jeremy and Carl have gone…..
Sigh.
Sorry I haven’t been back, and it’s way late to comment on this, but after reading your replies to my comments…I must at least retort..
First of all, I’m not Canadian, but an American citizen born in good-ol’ West Virginia.
No one answered my question – if the world is only a few thousand years old, according the the all-mighty Bible, then why do we have fossils – of older humans, primates, mammals, and of course dinosaurs – dating several million years old. This is fact, not a belief. It’s called carbon dating, and it does not lie.
Oh, and I’m not scared about LOVE. I LOVE way more than you can probably ever fathom. I LOVE my wife who had an abortion because it was with the wrong person and the wrong time. I LOVE my brother-in-law who is gay and has a wonderful boyfriend. I LOVE people who think WAR should be the last answer instead of the first. I accept ALL people who have a completely open mind like me, unlike you religious people who only accept people who hold the same beliefs as your mystic religion says you should follow.
I don’t follow a Bible or religion. And sorry to say, this is a another fact – religion, and the specific belief in one’s “God”, has caused more war and loss of human life than any other cause since modern humans have lived on this Earth.
Carl, I’m so sorry your wife felt the need to have an abortion. I can’t imagine what an awful experience that must have been for her. Your love for her in spite of it is wonderful. There are so many women who have abortions because they’ve been convinced that it’s no big deal because the baby is just a “clump of cells” and who have gone on to experience life changing psychological trauma because of it.
Regarding your brother-in-law, why wouldn’t you love him? Just because he’s gay doesn’t mean he isn’t worthy of love. That was an odd thing for you to write.
I am one of those people who believes war is an absolute last resort, and I supported the Iraq war because it was the last option available. The UN made it clear that it simply would not enforce any of the 14 (or how ever many there were) resolutions that it imposed on Saddam Hussein. I’m glad we deposed him. The Middle East is better off for it. Iraq certainly is better off for it. Al Qaeda is on its death bed, and we are safer. I know you will disagree with that and, instead, will blame America for all of this world’s ills instead of the actual sources of those ills.
And regarding the Bible and the existence of fossils, dinosaurs, etc. I am a Christian, but I don’t believe the world is only 6,000 years old, so you can take that snarky comment and stuff it.
And your statement here is an amazing an exercise in hypocrisy:
I accept ALL people who have a completely open mind like me, unlike you religious people who only accept people who hold the same beliefs as your mystic religion says you should follow.
Is this meant to be funny or satirical?
I’m guessing you believe that there’s simply nothing after death. If so, I can’t imagine a more hopeless view of life. Or death for that matter. But you are right that many, many people in history and in modern times have used their religion as a reason to kill others who don’t agree with them. And the fact that you threw that out there tells me it’s the reason, or at least one reason, why you refuse to believe in God. But to use others’ behavior as a reason to not have any faith in God or any affiliation with religion is to put yourself in a position of weakness, for you’re allowing yourself and your actions to be controlled by others, yet you claim to be the one who’s strong. It’s an interesting dichotomy you’ve got going there.
Carl, It sounds to me like you have been hurt in the past by people who called themselves religious. I am sorry for that. It’s hard to figure out why God allows some of us to be His children since we sometimes misrepresent Him. That however, does not mean that He is to be rejected just because of the poor behavior of some of His children. He loves you, Carl.
My cousin is gay and I love him dearly. Does it make me sad that he feels that he has to choose between a relationship with God and a relationship with his boyfriend? Yes. But my cousin doesn’t want to follow the standards God has set up. God has set up a few rules for us – but they are for our good. As parents, we set up rules for our kids. Why? To keep them SAFE. To our kids it seems like we are just trying to ruin their lives. Our kids may stomp and fuss at doing chores, or homework, – or whatever – but our rules remain because we love them enough to hold the line. God is the same. He set up some rules so that we could live happy, safe lives. Not lives without pain – but lives without self-inflicted pain. Most of us still stomp around and want our own way. In my own life, I have found that the more I stay within the guidelines God has set up, the happier I am, and the better my life is.
The Bible is not necessarily 6,000 years old. No one knows how many years passed between some of the stories recorded in the Bible. Some have made educated guesses. Do some more research to see what other great scholars have discovered about the Bible’s accuracy in recorded history. You might be surprised. You say you are open minded, so check out the other side of the argument. “The Case for Christ” might interest you.
I’m glad you love your wife and brother-in-law, but I’m surprised that you say you love people like me. Being called a whack-o, a moron, and warped didn’t feel very loving. If you have an open mind about conservative political views, why did you insult Kim and myself? I’m still scratching my head over your comment to stop giving you my sob stories. You didn’t answer my question about that.
